 There is hardly any individual who does not have a duty gear, or need some form of duty gear. Even a housewife, whose profession is rightly or wrongly not a highly lauded one, needs a full spectrum duty gear. Her duty gear will consist of brooms, brushes, and vacuum cleaners on one side, and knives, choppers, mixers, grinders, graters, meat mincers and egg whippers on another side, and washing slab, washing machine, clothesline, and ironing board on a third side. If any one of these items of her duty gear malfunctions, she is also likely to malfunction.
While duty gear is important enough for a housewife or delivery boy, in the case of security personnel duty gear has a sort of hallowed significance because of the type of duties they discharge. All types of security personnel, governmental or private, are guardians of others and are responsible for the safety and security of other people and properties. While this safeguarding of others is, in a way, an extension of an individual’s own security, security men are expected to even give up their lives to safeguard others. This double burden that police, army, and other security people carry, make their duty gear also doubly important.
As security has become a burning issue all over the world today, duty gear has gained unprecedented significance. Conventional warfare has made a gargantuan shift into a domain called terrorism, making conventional security arrangements stand on its head. Under the functionality of this current era warfare, shadows of security threat perpetually falls on every office and every man walking on the street. This changed equation has catapulted duty gear also into a new domain where it is getting molded fast to take up these new challenges.
Warfare and law and order problems are more covert these days than overt. As such, law enforcement operations also have to be covert quite often. Duty gear required for undercover operations can be slightly different from duty gear required for direct law enforcement and crime detection. Duty gear manufacturers are fully attuned to taking up the challenges of designing all types duty gear necessary for these changing law and order equations.
On the face of the increasing threat of terrorism, police and army in full duty gear are even seen patrolling non-governmental installations like corporate organizations, or NGOs dispensing social help. With even corporate sector and places of worship landing on the terrorism radar across the world, security personnel in duty gear are a very comforting presence for employees of all organizations.
At a certain level, things like police duty gear and military duty gear evoke even an emotional response from the public. On the aftermath of serious terror crises in countries, especially in cases where the police or military commandoes have fully overcome the enemy, or have been at least partially successful in weakening the enemy, emotions often run high at the very sight of a policeman or soldier with their full duty gear.
The same emotional response to people in duty gear is shown to those involved in rescue operations like fire fighters, evacuation squads etc. They are saviors of people and it is their duty gear which is at least partly responsible for making them the saviors they are.
